Born (6A), Logue (4A) star in girls distance events

 

State Meet Highlights - RESULTS

- Molly Born, a sophomore from Shawnee Mission North, won the 6A girls 1,600 meters in 4:51.09 and the 3,200 in 10:20.22. She had strong competition from Emily Venters of Lawrence Free State in both races.

- Junior Yazmine Wright of Hutchinson Senior won a competitive 6A girls 400 final in 57.19 seconds.

- Belesti Akalu from Shawnee Mission North won the 6A boys 3,200 in 9:21.06 and placed third in the 1,600. He also had a leg on the winning 4x800 relay (7:57.64).

- Trenton Allen from Derby threw 210-0 to win the 6A boys javelin title.

- Cameron Waldo from Olathe South won the 6A boys 400 in 48.68 and anchored his team to the 4x400 relay victory (3:18.13).

- Wichita Southeast athletes swept the 6A long jump with strong marks. Breanna Eckels won the girls long jump with 19-0.75; Ira Hines won the boys event with 23-8.

- Shawnee Mission North won the 6A boys team title with 63 points.  Olathe East won the girls championship with 61.

- Sophomore Aarika Lister from Leavenworth sprinted to 5A titles in the 100 (11.98) and the 200 (24.64).

- Kassidy Johnson of Maize South won a very closse 5A 800 meters (2:17.44) final and also won the 400 in 57.73. She won a third title in the 1,600, running 5:10.91.

- Jenna Gray from St. James Academy threw 162 feet to win the Class 5A javelin.

- Sophomore Noah Green from Blue Valley Southwest swept the 5A hurdles -- going 14.02 for the 110s (13.98 prelim) and 37.14 in the 300 hurdles.

- Taylor Muff from Pittsburg won the 5A girls 100 hurdles (14.88) and the 300 hurdles (45.20).

- In Class 5A, the St. Thomas Aquinas boys won with 74 points and the Newton girls piled up 101 points.

- Cailie Logue of Girard showed that she is one of the top junior distance runners in the country, sweeping 4A titles in the 800 (2:13.08), the 1,600 (4:54.44) and the 3,200 (10:31.60).

- Jafar Armstrong of Bishop Miege swept the Class 4A 100 (10.83) and 200 (22.13).

-  Travis Hodge from DeSoto won the 4A 800 in 1:53.06 and the 1,600 in 4:16.34.

-  Jacoby Greenwood from Osawatomie won 4A titles in the 110 hurdles (14.06) and the 300 hurdles (37.93).

- Ian Rudzik from Ulysses won the 4A shot put (62-7) and discus (178-4).

- Elle Barrett from McPherson won 4A titles in the long jump (18-3.75) and triple jump (38-4.75).

- Kelsey Kehl of Baldwin won the 4A javelin with 160-8 and also won the discus (134-11) and placed second in the shot put (38-3.50). 

- The Baldwin girls racked up 95.5 points to dominate the Class 4A team race; Bishop Miege's boys scored 61 to claim the team title. 

-  Zack Strawn from Wellsville won the 3A boys 400 meters in 49.07 seconds.

- There were a pair of strong winning javelin marks in Class 3A. Logan Wolfley of Silver Lake threw 198-3 for the win and Kourtni Hubert of Beloit threw 147-4.

- Norton Community and Scott City tied for the boys team title in 3A with 48 points apiece; Beloit cruised to the girls title with 71.5.

- Brooke Brownlee from Maranatha Academy swept the 2A 100 (12.37) and 200 (25.54). 

- Peri Pange from Moundridge won the 2A 300 hurdles in 44.82 seconds.

- Kyler True from Olpe won the 2A titles in the 800 (1:55.23) and the 1,600 (4:21.84). True was the overall state leader in both events.

- The boys from Olpe won the 2A team title with 65 points. Valley Heights piled up 73 points for the girls title. 

- Lauren Doll from Flint Hills won the 1A girls triple jump with 37-4.50 and won by two feet. She also placed second in the 300 hurdles, second in the 100 hurdles and sixth in the 200.

- Ashland's boys (46 points) and Axtell's girls (54) won the 1A team titles.
